It has been years since the department of education selected the land north of
Kailun for a West Hawaii campus of the University of Hawaii. It is beyond the time that
the classrooms should have been moved out of Kealakekua to a campus in a clean and safe
environment. The school can not grow in the present situation and West Hawaii is in
desperate need of higher education. I would love to have continuing education available
but am not willing to fight the traffic to take night classes with the limited curriculum
available now.
The present traffic situation forces everyone through town for work, school and
entertainment, if Palamanui was built with the roads, stores, campus and parks that are
proposed, it would relieve some of the congestion that is currently part of any activity in
the Kona urea.
The county of Hawaii has allowed developers to build cul-de-sac subdivisions for too long
in Kona, it is time that the connecting roads that the residents need became part of the

development ns is the case with Palamanui. I live in the Kaloko area and work in South
Kohnla so am forced to use Kai'imi'nani everyday. It would relieve a lot of traffic if there
was an alternate route.
Please take into consideration the needs all of the residents in Kona when making your
decision regarding this project. Kona is going to grow regardless. We need to make sure

that the projects that are passed are the ones that benefit the most people.
Peggy Kelley
~ornm. ~ew~~ 1.
Rif.
