As sick and disgusted as I am with the road
situation in Kona perhaps more critical is the lack of educational opportunities afforded our young people on the

west side of the island. Yes, we have a community college campus in Kealakekua but it is small and due to the
traffic problems, nearly inaccessible. The University of Hawaii campus in Hilo is quite distant from Kona given the
terrible condition of the saddle road and the current cost of gasoline. UH Hilo graduates get the good paying
government jobs and Kona community college students get jobs serving the public in the hotels and restaurants.
The west side desperately needs a university campus and the Palamanui development, if the developer can be
held to their promises, provides that. We also needs a street connecting Holo Holo Street in Palisades to the new
development. It would be efficient if residents and students living in Palisades and Coastview/Wonderviewdidni
have to drive down to the bottom of the hill and then up again as has been proposed by county planners. I give a
thumbs up to this development if we can get a permanent university campus out of it.
Thank you,
Peter Hain
73-1066 Ahikawa Street
Kailua Kona
Conan.
