Angel
Cc: Yuen, Chris
Subject: Testimony County Council Meeting 4/18 at lpm
Aloha Planning Committee Chairman Councilman Angel Pilago,
I have lived in Kona now for thirty years, having built my first home in Kona Heights in
1978. Over these years, I have observed the way this county conducts business. I am very
familiar with the growth that has occurred here in Kona especially over the past 5 years.
There are indications everywhere you look that planning has not followed through from
administration to administration, and Kona has always been the poor cousin of Hilo, having
never been able to muster, as of yet, a 5-4 majority vote in the Council.
Meanwhile the residents who pay taxes, support education for their children, and work to
improve their property and support community events and causes, have over the past years
watched a steady erosion of the quality of life here in Kona.
Folks in general seem quite upset with the general deteration of the quality of life here.
Mauka folks doen't want to come to town anymore or drive North to the beaches because of
the traffic. We are not saying No growth, but we are saying Planned Growth.
I can no longer support an administration who does not do something very quickly about the
numbers of people moving here wanting to build or buy without the supporting
infrastructure to carry these people existing.
The Subdivision Control Code should implement the Land Use Law to ensure adequate public
services are provided for in residential developments. We are now at the point where we
must protect for the future the qualities we came here to be part of.
It is essential at this time, that we protect and preserve all farm lands on this island
where food or fiber could be grown. We must allow farmers to live on these lands, that is
the only way farming will work.
Actually this is not the time to put one person in charge without ting able to take
testimony on sifferent subjects.
Aloha,

Nancy Redfeather
Kawanui Farm, Honalo
Comm.
