Higa, Chair
Hawaii County Council
25 Aupuni St.
Hilo, Hi. 96720

Dear Mr. Higa:

I would like to respond to Bill 268, an ordinance to initiate a charter amendment to Article III, Section 3-7,
of the Hawaii County Charter (2000) relating to County Council meetings, introduced by Kona Councilman
Angel Pilago.
The Bill would require an equal amount of Council meetings between East and West Hawaii, and would
provide meetings in West Hawaii on even-numbered months. I am totally against this move.

First of all, the city of Hilo is the capital of the Island of Hawaii and the seed of county government. It is
the center of all county, state and federal government services. The majority of County Council meetings
are held on the East side, while meetings are held on the West side once every three months, or quarterly. I
believe the present schedule is working. As your constituent, I urge you to vote NO to equalize the number
of meetings held on each side. This would be a total waste of our money.

SincereleMke

Mose Hilo, Hi District 4

Comm No. 25•b
Ref.
