If something is not an issue, it <br /> shouldn't be a great burden for the developer to state why. In any case, the Planning Dept. should err on <br /> the side of the public interest, rather than private entities who propose permanent changes to our island. <br /> <br /> It should also be recognized that public officials can be corrupt. Anyone who denies this is either an <br /> apologist for wrongdoing, or terribly naYve. Good government is run on the basis of safeguards, not <br /> trust. Where would our country's Constitution be if the founding fathers had neglected to include checks <br /> and balances on the grounds that public officials always do the right thing?
