My comment is from the
point of view of the neighbor of the cockfighting participant. I have a neighbor who must have over 50 roosters...
all tied up on their front lawn. They don't have large fights on their property, but some small gatherings
on occaision. I have not been over there or discussed the fights with them. I do however hear the crowing
from 50+ roosters all day and all night long. When the neighbor leaves for work at 5:00 AM it begins. When
someone feeds them, it happens again. When one rooster gets too close to another, gets off his tie cord, or gets
close to one of the many free roaming hens or chicks it happens all over again. Each rooster has to crow several
times to have himself heard. It is deafening, it is horrible and it is a nuisance to say the least. Every time
someone drives into their property, or leaves... they all crow. When a bird flies over, they all crow. When one of
the free roaming hens comes off her nest, they all crow. When the sun rises it is deafening. When the moon
rises, full or not, they all feel the need to crow. It is really something I am so tired of hearing I feel the need to
tell you and pray that you can control the number of roosters that should be allowed on one persons land. It
definately effects the peace and tranquility and peace of mind of the neighbors. I am also concerned with the
other "fee roaming" chicks, young roosters and hens that come over to my animal pens and poop in the feed dish,
water dish and all over the grass. They eat the feed I put out for my animals. These same birds also come up
onto my deck and poop in the dog feed dishes and water dish and all over my deck. I am very concerned about
the potential threat of bird flu from all the chicken poop around from these birds. Who can say how rapidly bird
flu would spread thru a hundred plus chickens. Is there not some way for me to get some sleep? Please don't
suggest ear plugs, because I would have to wear them all day and all night long. I sincerely hope there is some
way to control the number of roosters one family can breed. It is really an issue of nuisance, of noise and of
health. There are also concerns about animal cruelty as well. I have seen the birds tied up onto a plastic barrel
or plywood tee pee with about 4-5' of tie out cord attached to one leg. I have seen a rooster hanging upside down
from his tied up leg over the top of one of these tee pees. This seems cruel to me. If one rooster gets loose, he
can go around and beat up all the tied up ones. If no one is home, it is a massacre. I am also concerned that it
entails gambling, often the use of drugs, undeclared income and the type of people these activities attract and
encourage. Thank you for considering my opinion. I appreciate your strong support. Laura Burnette, Mountain
View, Hawaii. 808 987-5293
Comm. No. 16
Ref. To:, rill
Ref.
