WHEREAS, the preservation of mazine life in Hawai`i's waters is also an issue of great <br /> economic importance given that a healthy ocean environment is an integral part of Hawai`i's <br /> tourism industry. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY <br /> OF HAWAII, that it is opposed to the use of tactical mid-frequency active sonaz in the conduct <br /> of the RIMPAC 2006 anti-submarine exercises in the Hawaiian Islands. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council requests the National Mazine <br /> Fisheries Service conduct public hearings in East and West Hawaii on the U.S. Navy's long- <br /> term plans to comply with the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the National Environmental <br /> Policy Act. <br /> BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be transmitted to President <br /> George W. Bush, Senator Daniel K. Akaka, Senator Daniel K.
