Angel Pilago, Chair <br /> RE: Testimony in Support of County Resolution No. 383-06 <br /> <br /> Aloha Chair Pilago and members of the Committee on Planning, <br /> I am a life-long resident of Kona and am active In the community. I <br /> am a member of the West Hawaii Fisheries Council, although I am <br /> writing this letter of support as an individual. <br /> An expanded marina is long overdue for Kona. Known throughout <br /> the world as a sport fishing destination, the Kona coast is also a <br /> destination that is sensitive to the sustainability of our ocean. <br /> Jacoby Development has the ability to build a mixed-use marina <br /> development that is environmentally strong, utilizes energy <br /> efficiency and water quality protection. <br /> In addition, the resort component will provide accommodations for <br /> visitors looking for a unique experience on the Big Island and <br /> provide the necessary income to provide needed public benefits <br /> Including the new marina and a new road connecting Kuakini <br /> Highway and Kealakehe Parkway through QLT lands. <br /> The area surrounding Honokohau Harbor was in urban and resort <br /> prior to February 2005 and this General Plan amendment will <br /> restore what was taken away. <br /> I encourage you to pass this resolution directing the Planning <br /> Director to conduct a feasibility study of amending the General Plan <br /> to include resort on this parcel of land. <br /> Alo , <br /> Doug Herkes <br /> 68-3544 A'Aka Place <br /> Waikoloa, HI 96738 <br /> (808)987-8719 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Comm, Mo. q 39 . <br /> Ref.
