Higa <br /> Chair, Hawaii County Council <br /> County of Hawaii <br /> 25 Aupuni Street <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> -1 <br /> Dear Council Chair Higa: <br /> Subject: Support for Resolution No. 383-06, A Resolution <br /> to Initiate Interim Amendments to the General <br /> Plan for Lands Adjoining Honokohau Harbor at <br /> Kealakehe, District of North Kona <br /> The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL) strongly <br /> supports this resolution directing the Planning Director to <br /> conduct a study to determine the feasibility of amending the <br /> General Plan and the General Plan Land Use Pattern Allocation <br /> Guide Map to include Open, Resort, and Urban Expansion area <br /> designation within the lands adjoining Honokohau Harbor at <br /> Kealakehe, North Kona. <br /> <br /> DHHL has entered into a long term general lease with Kona <br /> Marina Development Group LLC, a subsidiary of Jacoby <br /> Development, for the development of our 200-acre parcel at <br /> Kealakehe. The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) <br /> has also entered into a Development Agreement with Jacoby <br /> Development for approximately 250 acres adjacent to our lands. <br /> As DHHL owns most of the mauka Kealakehe lands in the <br /> <br /> Villages of Laiopua in addition to the 200 acres near the <br /> Honokohau Harbor, the proposed plans for a mixed-use development <br /> including associated resort development, is an integral part of <br /> a master-planned community concept that promotes self- <br /> Comm.
