Because of this long
history, Beach Lots has a wide variety of wastewater disposal systems. Some of
these are original septic tanks, that have never been replaced or repaired.

There are now over 140 dwellings in this community with many new ones
planned or under construction. We are also facing the future possibility that the
number of homes and vacation rentals in the community will double or perhaps
even triple. This is due to the fact that Kapoho Land Development is considering
divesting itself of approximately 140 acres of land classified as R 10,000. This
will have a significant effect on the local environment unless new, long range
plans are developed to handle sewage and other infrastructure problems that
exist in this region of Puna.

Earlier this year Eric Schott asked for our support of Senate Bill 2480. The Board
of Directors of the KBCA unanimously voted to extend such support. However,
our request to be included in the study arrived to late to be included in the bill.
We again support the request that addition money be allocated so that Kapoho
Beach Lots may be included in this essential study to establish a sound plan for
wastewater disposal in this region.
This community strongly believes that the environment and the rare natural
resources and beauty of this part of the coastal margin of the Island of Hawaii are
worthy of protection and preservation. Let us all learn from past mistakes and
take measures today to salvage this area for future generations.

Mahalo,

4. ka4f a. ~
4L .
