RECEIVED
Time~:.C11_!~'i~ ey_ gym.
;~~,~z
Count' Cound)
December 15, 1997

James Arakaki, Chairman
County Council, County of Hawaii
25 Aupuni Street
Hilo, Hawaii 96720
Dear Chairman Arakaki,
About a week and a half ago, I read in our local newspaper about the Council's
pending action to either fund or not fund HGEA' Unit 03 and Unit 04 pay increase
agreements. I can well understand the difficult decisions that the Council deal with
time after time as it is most difficult to please everyone on the same issues. Whenever
budgeting is concerned, those decisions become even more difficult to make.
As you study this situation, I know you will consider the need for HGEA employees to
get this increase. With the continuing reduction in force of public employees, those
who remain must do not only what they were hired to do, but also learn and do the
work of others for the benefit of a healthy Big Island community. Because an
agreement was reached and because it is my understanding that funds are available
for such an increase, your support of the public employee is appreciated.
Thank you for "hearing me out." I appreciate your commitment to a better Big Island
community and your openess in hearing your public.
Sincerely,
Jayne K.
