This Brazilian Fern Tree was planted by Sadie Seymore in 1937 on her family property. This healthy tree stands more than thirty meters tall, with a crown spread of more than eighty feet. It is of significant rarity because it is the only known tree in Holualoa, and is the largest on the island. It is of significant aesthetic quality because of its large bowered branches, with masses of yellow flowers in March and April. Ms. Gwendolyn Hobbs, the current property owner, has been notified of the nomination, and agrees this tree should be designated as an exceptional tree. For your information, we are enclosing a copy of the Exceptional Tree Nomination Forms and the minutes of the June 15, 2006 meeting which includes public comments on these trees. On behalf of the property owner, the Committee requests the September 19, 2006 committee hearing be waived and this bill be set on the agenda for the County Council meeting in Kona on September 20, 2006.
