The tree was brought as a gift from Iolani Palace and planted by Princess
Kapiolani. It is more than 124 years old, with a crown spread of 89 feet. It is the only tree of its
size, with beautiful bowers spreading over Ali'i Drive.

Amelia Burgess, lhilani Staten, and Kaliko Chun of the Burgess family, owners of the tree,
consider the tree to be a member of their family and care for it as a family member. They are
surprised this tree has not yet been designated an exceptional tree, and wholeheartedly support
this nomination.

For your information, we are enclosing a copy of the Exceptional Tree Nomination Forms and
the minutes of the June 15, 2006 meeting which includes public comments on these trees.

On behalf of the property owners, the Committee requests the September 19, 2006 committee
hearing be waived and this bill be set on the agenda for the County Council meeting in Kona on

d~94 33$?
