Hawaii 96720 September 13, 2006 Alex and Kauilani Almeida 132 Kaieie Place Hilo, Hawaii 96720 RE: Kikala-Keokea Residential Subdivision Dear Alex and Kauilani, After our recent meeting, we contacted the Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) to discuss your concerns about the lack of contact between the State and the residents of your subdivision regarding the transfer of ownership from the State to the County of the subdivision roadways, the clearing of the proposed park site and the proposed roadway streetlights. I understand that you are planning to write a letter to DLNR regarding your concerns and will provide me with a copy of the letter. The DLNR official contacted by Skip Bethea, my legislative assistant, indicated that the State is willing to try to comply with resident's concerns regarding the roadways, streetlights and the park. He suggested that resident's could contact Harry Yada of DLNR's Hawaii Office to set up a community meeting to improve contact between the State and the resident's. Should such a meeting be set up, please invite me to attend so I may be of further assistance to you and the resident's of your subdivision. With regard to the transfer of the roadways from the State to the County, a Resolution has just put on the agenda for the next meeting of the Council's Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations on September 19, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Kona (see attached Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations Committee agenda and Resolution No. 448-06).
