There wasn't anything in it specifically about ast~stds. -O N The procedure now is that Group 70 will publish the availability of the draft EIS in the OEQC Bull h and the public will have 45 days to comment. If someone wants to comment about asbestos, they should-write to Group 70. Then Group 70 will have to respond to the letter. :3 After the deadline for the comment period, and after Group 70 has responded, they will make any revisions they want to the draft, and ask us to accept the revisions as the final EIS. If the Planning DepeitmentNcepts the final, then the public has 60 days to challenge that acceptance in court. Now, turning to the possible purchase of land at Punalu'u, Chap. 343 requires an environmental assessment (or possibly full EIS) for any purchase of land with improvements on it. We are interested in any information it might contain about the abandoned structure on TMK: 9-6-001:003, specifically any reports on the presence of or removal of asbestos. Some Council members are concerned about rumors they have heard about this structure containing asbestos and the possible liability it may pose for the County should they approve Bob's resolution to purchase the area for Open Space.
