K. ~~CHUTTE, DEPUTY FINANCE DIRECTOR~1 <br /> SUBJECT: DHHL RPT DELINQUENCY <br /> On November 5, 19532, the Council passed Ordinance 92-129 Bill 679, Draft 2, <br /> which allows for the exemption of Real Property taxes on the land of homestead <br /> leases, with only thel minimum tax of $25.00 per year. <br /> On October 6, 1992., a letter was received from Mrs. Drake, then Chair of DHHL, <br /> indicating the commission's commitment to advance funds on its homestead <br /> leases behalf to pay off real property tax delinquencies. <br /> On November 30, 15394, the Council passed Comm. #1427 which provided for <br /> exemption of all penalty and interest due on delinquent DHHL parcels as of <br /> November 30, 1994. <br /> In trying to settle thi;> outstanding delinquency I have been in touch with Kali <br /> Watson, Chairman of the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, on four different <br /> occasions, two by phone and two by letter. <br /> Apparently the last contact with Kali Watson on 10/14/97, by phone, indicated <br /> that although he agrees to the amount owed to the County, he insists that he <br /> prefers to contra the amount owing by deducting the following: <br /> Keaukaha Flood Control $114,222 <br /> Traffic Light-DJlakaala & Kanoelehua 29,315 <br /> Total $143,537 <br /> <br />
