TESTIMONY TO THE HAWAII COUNTY COUNCIL COMMITTEE ON FINANCE
43rd Session September 19, 2006.

FROM: Danny Miller, PO Box 686, Pahala, HI 96777

SAVE PUNALWU From JM Cousteau

The above picture is an actual photo the Grand Caymen Ritz Carlton
home to Cousteau's Ambassador of the Environment Program that
introduces young people to the "natural wonders and rich cultural
traditions of the Cayman Islands." Is this his vision for Punalu'u??

Lets work together to save Punalu' u as a living classroom, from the
mountains to the sea. Punalu ' u is one of Hawaii's greatest natural
treasures; home to important Hawaiian sacred sites and burials; a nesting
place for the sacred honu ea; critical habitat for countless endangered
plants and animals and a priceless resource for local families, fisherman
and cultural practioners. The Proposed development would destroy
the natural beauty of Ka' u forever!

Punalu ' u has been a LIVING CLASSROOM for centuries and if protected,
can continue to be a "Eco-Campus" for students and educators from
around the world. With public input and community involvement we can
create a VISION that comes from people of KA' U who have protected its
resources for nearly two thousand years. We welcome your involvement,
ideas and participation to help save this invaluable natural resource.

Thank you, Danny Miller Pahala, HI )14A

o
6~f •6
Comm.
