Higa, Chair and Members of the Hawaii County Council FROM: Donald Ikeda, Council Member F--~-~ RE: Discretionary Funds (District 2) Discretionary funds from District 2 will be used to pay for costs related to the installation of "Smart Signs", speed limit signs that alert drivers to the speed in which they are driving. The Smart Signs will also tally the speeds of all vehicles that traverse that section, enabling the Department of Public Works to monitor the general speed of cars in that area. These innovative speed limit signs will be installed on Ainako Avenue, above Apoke Street, on Kukuau Street, between Komohana Street and Mohouli Extension, and on Waianuenue Avenue, in the residential area above Hilo Medical Center. The Smart Signs will serve as a friendly reminder to drivers regarding their speed. Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the transfer of $30,000.00 for the three (3) Smart Signs from the Clerk-Council Services - Contingency Relief account to the following account and project: FUNDING AMOUNT FROM: TO: $30,000.00 Clerk-Council SVC Trans To Cap Proj Fund-G Contingency Relief 010.801.5801.33 010.101.5101.91 (East Hawaii Traffic Calming Improvements CIP 110.399.5395.30.115) Also enclosed is a bill to amend Ordinance No. 06-80, as amended, relating to public improvements and financing thereof for the fiscal year 2006 - 2007.
