Inouye
RE: f ' Resolution No. 65-06; Protecting Waimea Pu'u

As a former Mayor of Hawaii County and as State Senator of District 1, 1 write to
express my support for the adoption of County Council Resolution No. 65-06.
The measure seeks to change the district classification from unzoned and
agricultural (A-1(a)) to agricultural (A-500(a)) at Waimea, South Kohala, Hawaii.

The land contains important places of cultural and historical significance, some of
which have been recommended for preservation by the Hawaii County Public
Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission. The
Pu'u and rolling hills of Waimea and the Kohala Mountains are limited and we
must protect this land for valuable recreational and educational purposes.
Development of this land would be a terrible loss of open space for our children
and future generations of Big Island residents.
Thank you for your attention and kind consideration of this matter.

Comm.
