~tv os M <br /> t~~~.~ <br /> <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ~ry~0l~MI.~r <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 500 06 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO <br /> A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) <br /> WHEREAS, Ho`okani Pila (formerly Na Keiki `O Na `Ukulele) is an `ukulele class <br /> under the County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation's Culture and Arts <br /> Division; and <br /> WHEREAS, the students of Ho`okani Pila learn to perpetuate the `ukulele through <br /> songs of old and modern day contemporary Hawaiian music, as well as populaz songs from <br /> the 50's up to the present; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ho`okani Pila has performed at many events, such as the County of <br /> Hawai`i's Cherry Blossom Festival, the Culture and Arts Barefoot Hula program, the Mayor's <br /> lighting of the Christmas tree, fundraisers for the Friends of the Zoo, Waiakea High School <br /> Band Ice Cream Jam, the Lehua Jaycee's Springfest Carnival, Hilo Jaycee's County Fair, Kona <br /> Elderly Care Homes, and many other public and private functions; and <br /> WHEREAS, Ho`okani Pila has been invited to represent the Big Island at the 2007 <br /> `Ukulele Festival on Oahu on July 29, 2007, which will provide a wonderful experience for <br /> the students to be a part of a large extravaganza highlighting the `ukulele, as well as the <br /> opportunity to observe other `ukulele performers from throughout the State of Hawaii; and <br /> WHEREAS, funds are needed to help cover the expenses for airfare, ground <br /> transportation, hotel accommodations, and other program costs for the 35 members of <br /> Ho`okani Pila; and <br /> WHEREAS, discretionary funds from Council District 1 will be appropriated to the <br /> Depaztment of Parks and Recreation's Culture and Arts Division to help defray the cost for <br /> Ho`okani Pila to participate in the 2007 `Ukulele Festival on Oahu. <br /> <br />
