Over the years there were problems.
Kittens and active cats sometimes got the front of their collar twisted back up over their chin and into
their mouth, where they could not dislodge it. They would fight the collar, gagging and drooling
profusely in panic until someone pulled it back out of their mouth for them.

Sometimes cats would get caught by the collar on barbed wire or fences, as well as in brush and
branches.

One of my cats vanished for weeks, finally reappearing almost dead at half the body weight. Two of his
canine teeth were broken off completely from the gums and the collar frayed past recognition as a result
of freeing himself when he was hung up by his collar.

I now use microchips to identify my pet cats. It is not consistent to spend money altering, vaccinating,
feeding and caring for a cat and THEN put a collar on its neck that can turn into a death trap.
Hopefully, the newspaper article that said microchipping meets the requirement of cat identification is
correct. However, IF the Animal Control Bill REQUIRES COLLARS for cats, I would ask you NOT
TO SUPPORT 19 O , So
that Bill, please. Comm. No• I
Ref. To: M
Ref.
