In class
we discussed the issue bill 300. We discussed its pro's and con's. In my 41' period class the majority said that
we are not for the bill 300.
I'm concerned about what the people of Hawaii might do when they can't have their free time at the
beach. Not every person who drinks at the beach parks are crazy alcoholics. I think that if we have a
watch guard or a police officer who is stationed at the beach parks they can monitor the use of alcoholic
beverages. If they see a problem occurring they can settle it at that time instead of taking away
everyone else's privileges. Hopefully this bill will not turnout to be like the prohibition law that turned
many Americans against the government and created riots throughout the nation.
To be honest I don't think this bill will prevent the drinking of alcoholic beverages in beach parks. This
will more then likely provoke many citizens of the state of Hawaii to go against the laws that have been
given to us. Do you really think that you can take away someone's privilege to drink in a public place?
What next? Are you going to ban drinking at parties at residences private homes? I think that if we are
going to be concerned about something I think that maybe we should be more concerned about the
education system. I found out yesterday that Hilo High School didn't meet the State of Hawaii
standards in education. How are the students here supposed to make it into a good college? We might
be able to make it in to a good college but when we go there we are going to be so far behind. If we are
going to worry about drinking at beach parks then we should be worried about people who drink and
drive. We need more road blocks. So many people die in a year because of drunk drivers and it's
usually not the drunk who dies it the innocent mom or teenager coming home from work or coming
home from the mall. Don't worry about what happens at the beaches lets just make sure no one
drowns.
Please make copies and share my letter with the other council members only if you think I have made a
good point on my feelings against the Bill 300.
Thank you very much have a good day and good luck with the elections coming up soon,
A concerned Hilo High School student with an opinion.

Comm.
