I attend Hilo High School, and I am 16 years old.
I enjoy playing tennis, and running. In two years, I will be a voting citizen in Hilo. I'm
very interested in this subject because I think that a ban on alcohol at beaches is a bad
idea.
I am against this bill (300), because I think that even though there are many
consequences to people drinking, it shouldn't be banned. I think that by eliminating
alcohol, people will resort to other illegal drugs at the beach. There are drugs that are
much worse, and more harmful than alcohol that could be used at the beach. The
irresponsible drinkers at the beach that drink too much should be fined. I also think that
there is an acceptable amount of alcohol that should be allowed to be consumed at our
beach parks.
I think that instead of punishing everyone for the action of the minority of the
drinkers at beaches, there should be a fair rule that allows people to have some freedom. I
think that people who get completely wasted at beaches should be punished because that
is not safe to themselves, their friends, and the environment (litter). I also think that
people who go to the beach and only have a little bit to drink should not be punished for
the acts of others. I think that they should still be allowed to drink at beach parks, but that
the people who DO drink large amounts of alcohol at the beach and become wasted
should have to be fined a large sum of money, or time in jail. If there was a more severe
law for being drunk at the beach, it wouldn't happen. That is my opinion on the subject.

Sincerely,
Jules Flood.

Comm. No.
Ref. '0. fires
Ref. Date
