January 7, 1998

Curtis Tyler
Hawaii County Council
Subject: Council meeting, Jan. 7 Agenda Item Biil ~ 165-166 ;Rezoning for Tax Map
Key 7-4-06:38 (Malia Ohana Partnership II)
We. Walter and Theresa Andreae, are adjoining nrcperty owners of tax map key 7-4-
06 3B along with neighbor, John Mahoney, and I-.ave been actively contesting as
interveners, along with John Mahoney, the special psrmit application for the proposed
church and related buildings by the Malia Ohana Partnership
.The matter of rezornng that is before the council today is strongly objected by us for
traffic safety concerns. It was concluded by the Planning Commission, Oct. 24, 1997,
that this particular property access off Palani Rd. at the end Of a series Of "s" turns and
the bottom of a substantial grade and right next More to a very busy school and church
was unsafe and further traffic studies were demanded.
A subdivision of 10 houses whose occupants en:~r and exit on that curve presents the
same concern; an unsafe hurden to an already ::tressed and inadequate Palani Rd.
Police accident reports submitted during the commission hearing was evidence and
testimony to the very unsafe condition that exist on this stretch of road.
We hope that the council will seriously consider the dangerous impact upon traffic
safety that a crowded subdivision on this corner of Palani Rd. will present.
Please circulate this latter to all members of in= 'runty Council prior to the January 7
hearing.
Gratefully,
Walter Andreae
T~heQresa Andreae
~ .
_ '
~ xa 57`f O
ZNG
INR.
