JOINT STATEMENT
PUBLIC LAND FOR DIVERSIFIED AGRICULTURE, FOR MIXED
HARDWOOD FORESTS AND FOR PUBLIC USE.
1. We support land use that would make Hawaii self-sustaining in
accordance with the Hawaii State Constitution.
2. We support diversified agriculture and native and mixed hardwood foreal=
rather than monoculture on state and county public Hamakua lands.
3. We support land use that preserves our natural resources and fosters
the local economy.

4. We support Hawaii residents having the first opportunity to lease State
~ County lands.
5. We support fair and equal opportunity of tax codes and lease terms for
any lease applicant on all lands.
6. We support local community involvement in land use decisions in all
stages of process.
Therefore, we, the undersig~oppose the establishment of vast monocrop
tree plantations on public Hamakua lands and specifically, we oppose the
trading of County Hamakua (ands thereby making them unavailable for
lease to Hawaii residents.
North Hilo/Hamakua Farm Bureau Ahualoa Community Assoc.
Sierra Club Mokuloa Group Friends of the Red Road
Friends of Hamakua Blg Island Rainforest Action Group
HamakualN.Hllo Ag-Coop Aloha 'Aloe Life ~ Education Center
Kukufhaele Community Assoc.
