~~i Pauka'a Community Association r_-T~
194 Kulana Street
Hilo, 96720
rebruary 6, 1997 f RECENED "~1"-
To: Hawai i Coun Council Public Works and Parks Committeen^'~---".',y~Ry~-___..-~~
tY Dare-----_, ry-~ 9.z-----......._........
Cau~tY Council ~G-
Comm. 87.02 Pauka'a Community Collector Sewer Resolution
The Pauka'a Community Association sent out a notice to 140+ residents regarding this
agenda item. By and large the greatest concerns expressed by the community are the
cost to hook up to the new system and additional cost to fill in existing cesspools. Add to
that the blanket $18. monthly fee which will be imposed on each household (that figure
was recently quoted to us from Gounty Wastewater).
Realizing the environmental good which will come from the system and the fact that
Ordinance 96-51 requires Council to approve all sewer extensions, we are requesting the
following be addressed before this Resolution is approved at full Council:
1- The cost of $18. per household seems excessive, could we be provided an
explanation as to where this figure came from and what this monthly fee would pay for?
Could the County determine if just a portion of that fee be returned to homeowner to help
towards hook-up cost?~
2. We also ask that a recommendation be added which requires the construction
company who will be doing this project to work closely with our community association to
keep us undated on construction times and assure that the roads of our neighborhood be
put back in their current condition.
-4~

~ II such a fund could be created, over a period of time, maybe a "rebate" could be sent to those
who already have paid the cost to hook up in other communities. 7
Comm.
