Box 8
Pahoa, Hi 46778
Aloha Wilfred & Clara
I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on my plans for my property. I am still
trying to get the land rezoned and to build aself-storage facility. Enclosed is a letter that
I wrote last week to Emily Naeole, the current council member from Pahoa. I encourage
you to read it carefully, especially the parts that discuss the impact of the project on your
land.
It remains my opinion that my project will provide a protective buffer to your property
from the new fire station and public complex. My project will be fenced and landscaped.
For you this means a reduction in the noise that will reach your property from the sirens.
It will also provide a visual and foot barrier from prying eyes and trespassers from the
county property.
You probably know that the State of Hawaii is planning on widening highway 130 in
front of your house. Initially this will be from two lanes to four lanes, later to six lanes.
This will have an impact on your property. Your home is very close to the existing
highway. It will be closer to the widened highway. You maybe forced to move your
home back, or lose it. The point is, the area is changing.
Please consider also that there are currently many permitted uses for my property under
the existing "ag" zoning. For example, I would be allowed to subdivide the land into 3
parcels and to put up three "ag" businesses that could cause considerable more
disturbance to your property than the project that I have in mind. I realize that you prefer
that there be no change to the use of my land, but this is unrealistic. Wouldn't it be better
to support one needed, non-polluting, low traffic project than to leave the door open to
even more development?
In closing, I would like to mention that the project will be staffed by one manager during
the week, and a weekend manager. If Wilfred, or someone that you know, would be
interested in the job, I would be happy to consider him or her. S`y' S
Comm. No.
Ref. To:Pre:~a~
Ref. Date ~
