TESTIMONY - Bi11345 <br /> January 4, 2007 <br /> My mime is Alice Chuberko. My husband and I live in the Keaau Ag Lots across fram <br /> <br /> the Kamehameha Schools. We have lived there for three years. Prior to that we lived for 8 years <br /> in a small, rural mountain town of Colorado and before that we lived on Oahu. (My husband <br /> <br /> retired fram the Honolulu Police Department.) Wizen we decided to move back to Hawaii, we <br /> thought we would go back to Kaneohe, our home town. But when we looked, it was just too <br /> crowded. We then decided to move to Hilo, a place I always thought of having the friendliest <br /> people and aloha spirit. We knew we wanted to live in an area of single family homes, not too <br /> close to one another and an area with low crime. We feel fortunate that we found the right home <br /> to purchase. Our realtor provided us with the CCR's and we felt this would be a good fit. <br /> I am here to speak in opposition of Bill 345. I believe this would not be good for the <br /> island of Hawaii. This bill does not take into consideration the impact it could have on <br /> neighborhoods like mine. Our infrastructure is for single family homes, not for multi-family <br /> homes. If several entities decided to move into our community, we would be faced with major <br /> and costly infrastructure issues. This bill has the potential to dramatically change a community <br /> without any of the residents having a say about the acne change or even being aware of a <br /> business entity moving in next door. How can that be fair and right?! Currently, the bill allows <br /> for five unrelated people. There is also a process whereby an entity can seek a caning variance. <br /> This is a weft tho~aghi out and good plan as it provides both the entity and the community an <br /> opportunity to voice their opinions. Why would we want to change it? <br /> If we want to continue to preserve our quality of life, our rural character, and show we <br /> respect the opinions of all, we as a community should oppose Bill 345. <br /> Thank you for listening. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> C,.'~.~, /1.
