February 7, 2007

Attn: Hawaii County Councihnembers:
RE: Testimony in support of Resolution 21-07
I am writing in support of Resolution 21-07, which would impose limits on the
sizes of Supercenter stores on the Big Island.
Without this resolution, huge corporations could build stores that are way too
massive for our island. In many places on the mainland, superstores are over 5 football
fields in length and oRen generate over 20,000 car trips a day. Add to that the massive
amounts of water and electricity that these structures require, and it is easy to see how
they can add to the burden of existing government infrastructure.
As a resident of the Big Island, I am deeply concerned with the dangers of
unchecked development. Supercenter stores that are allowed to build massive complexes
will bring too much traffic to our already congested roads and will hurt our local retail
stores, many of which have been here for decades. Our island culture will also be
negatively impacted with these types of stores-stores that are not a good fit for us.
Please vote YES on Resolution 21-07, and allow further discussion on this very
worthwhile legislation.
Submitted By:
Address: '76-~3~~- ~~h ~
city: K-a;~.~'~c fly Q~'r'la
Telephone: C!nst- 3?
~-23~,~
Email:
