REPORT OF THE <br /> COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC SAFETY AND PARKS AND RECREATION <br /> <br /> DATE: February 22, 2007 RE: Communication No. 175 <br /> <br /> PLACE: Sheraton Keauhou Bay Resort and Spa <br /> 78-128 Ehukai Street <br /> Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br /> TIME: 9:00 a.m. <br /> Council Chair and Members <br /> Hawaii County Council <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Your Committee on Public Safety and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred <br /> Communication No. 175, reports as follows: <br /> Communication No. 175, transmitted by Mayor Harry Kim, dated February 5, 2007, submits <br /> for confirmation the appointments of Mr. Everette L. Souza, Ms. Ioana D. Agasa, and <br /> Ms. Iris M. McGuire to the County of Hawaii Liquor Commission. <br /> Mr. Everette L. Souza (Council District 1) is a 59-yeaz resident of Hawaii and is the owner of <br /> Mister Fixit. He retired from HELCO in 2003 after 33 years working as a foreman. Mr. Souza <br /> is a 4-H Livestock Club leader, the past president of the Hamakua Lions Club, and a Democrat. <br /> If confirmed, Mr. Souza will replace Mr. Takashi Domingo, who resigned, and will serve out the <br /> remaining term, which ends on December 31, 2009. <br /> Ms. Iosua D. Agasa (Council District 4) is a 50-yeaz resident of Hawaii and is aself-employed <br /> CPA. She was employed by Namihira and Yokoyazna, CPA from 1993 to 1998. Ms. Agasa is a <br /> member of the Rotary Club of South Hilo and the past treasurer of both the Hawaii Island <br /> Chamber of Commerce and the Waiakea High PTSA. She is not affiliated with any political <br /> party. If confirmed, Ms. Agasa will serve a term to end on December 31, 2011, replacing <br /> Mr. Kelly Y. Kurakazu, whose term expired on December 31, 2006. <br /> Ms. Iris M. McGuire (Council District 5) is a 36-year resident of Hawaii and is the athletic <br /> director at Kea`au High School. She served as a police officer with the Hawaii County Police <br /> Department from 1998 to 2004. Prior to that, she was employed by St. Joseph High School as a <br /> teacher and coach from 1994 to 1998. Ms. McGuire helps with the Special Olympics and is the <br /> coordinator for both the Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco program and the Shattered Dreams <br /> program. She is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she will serve a term to end <br /> on December 31, 2011, replacing Mr. Carl Dionne, whose term expired on December 31, 2006. <br /> Mr. Souza was present at the meeting; Ms. Agasa was not present due to previously scheduled <br /> appointments; and Ms. McGuire was present via videoconferencing from Hilo.
