COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> ..a <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 202 <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION TO ABANDON PUBLIC AUCTION OF HAMAKUA LANDS IN <br /> PA`AUILO, TAX MAP KEYS (TMKS) (3) 4-3-07:01, 4-3-09:19, 4-3-09:24; 4-3-11:01, AND <br /> 4-3-11:02, TO ENABLE HAWAII COUNTY RESIDENTS TO FORMULATE A PLAN OF <br /> LAND DISPOSITION TO HELP ALLEVIATE THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING CRISIS <br /> ON HAWAII ISLAND. <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 60-07 adopted on Mazch 9, 2007, the Hamakua <br /> Lands Ad Hoc Committee was established to formulate a plan of land disposition to help alleviate <br /> the affordable housing crisis on Hawaii Island; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hamakua Lands Ad Hoc Committee conducted a series of community <br /> meetings and a newspaper publication survey, the results of which were reported in Communication <br /> No. 148.4 dated April 16, 2007, which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A" and made a part hereof; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hamakua Lands Ad Hoc Committee has continued to receive responses to <br /> its newspaper publication survey, the updated results of which aze attached hereto as Exhibit "B" <br /> and made a part hereof; and <br /> WHEREAS, the people of the County of Hawaii have overwhelmingly recommended that <br /> the public auction of Hamakua County lands be abandoned; and <br /> WHEREAS, the people of the County of Hawaii have expressed a sincere desire to <br /> participate in the planning process for formulation of a land disposition plan to help meet the <br /> affordable housing needs of our Hawaii Island community; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that upon <br /> the recommendation of the people of the County of Hawaii, the Council hereby requests that the <br /> Mayor abandon the public auction of Hamakua lands in Pa`auilo being tax map key pazcels (3) 4-3- <br /> 07:01, 4-3-09:19, 4-3-09:24, 4-3-11:01, and 4-3-11:02; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hamakua Lands Ad Hoc Committee established <br /> pursuant to Resolution No. 60-07 is requested to continue its meetings with Hawaii County <br /> residents and consult with Hawaii County administrators on formulation of a land disposition plan <br /> for said Hamakua County lands to help alleviate the affordable housing crisis on Hawaii Island; <br /> and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hamakua Lands Ad Hoc Committee shall report <br /> its findings to the Hawaii County Council Finance Committee and submit said report to the <br /> Honorable Mayor Hazry Kim and Finance Director William Takaba upon completion of its <br /> community meetings and consultation with Hawaii County administrators. <br /> <br />
