~W RECEIVED *I

Mazch 19, 1998 Tlme..~____.T By,_~.~'
Dale '

To: Hawaii County Council ~~~~~d~"'~"--~
Re: Keauhou Resort Project
Parcel 53
Although I am not accustomed to suggesting support for projects on the Big Island, I am inclined

to do so now, and ask for you to approve the plan submitted by the Kamehameha Investment
Corporation (KIC) for the above mentioned project. Here's why.
I believe there is a need for Keauhou, and Kahaluu, to have along-term, strategic plan for
additional single and multi-family residential housing. If such communities are properly planned
and approved for development, K1C will be able to react in a timely manner to serve the needs of

the area. It serves few peoples needs to require a planned community development to be approved
on an incremental basis. There are few, if any, obstacles that can not be addressed and included in

the final master plan.
Certainly, a carefully crafted design and development plan should include all of the components
necessary to guarantee a safe, healthful, and quality community. As I understand, through
documents that I have seen, the plan presented to you by KIC contains the primary elements to
support such a community.
Impacts to the community at-large have been build into the plan and KIC is able and willing to
protect the environmental and archaeological integrity of the area.
Lastly, KIC, as a subsidiary of Bishop Estate/Kamehameha Schools, is not a company that one
would expect to fall by the wayside, as some off shore companies have. They are the owners of
the land the plan is intended to improve, they have the resources of BE/KS behind them to
complete the project, and would not imprudently jeopardize the existing investments they have
adjacent to the proposed site.
I therefore ask that you support the plan of KIC by approving the single and multi-family
community proposal for parcel 53.
Thank-you,
Edward (Ted) Hardie Jr.
t. ~~~;a~-~
NnnngeJ by
lye. ~ ~8. ~
OUTRfGvER >4tls x~ 2 N G/K N
CONDOMINIVM
RESORT MANAGEMENT INC'" yy~~{{. ~ ?reSQnfe I ~~~NV ~~H
A4V ALUA A'ENO.VAI&2fil MAVIiAAl A.11 LlA-KONA.IIAN V1196140'1'1?LL+1'IIUn L+INOa)b22~~lYPf r C
Ref.
