County Council
May 31, 2007
Page 2
For your information, a recent chronology of this position is listed below showing
dates the position was filled or vacant and the reason for vacancy:
Position filled 9/16/03-01/1/06 Transfer
Position vacant during recruitment 1/1/06-3/16/06
Position filled 3/16/06 Resignation
Position vacant during recruitment 3/16/06-6/1/06
Position filled-temp 6/1/06-9/15/06 Temp
Position filled 9/18/06-4/2/07 Transfer
Position filled-temp 4/2/07-4/30/07 Temp
Position vacant during recruitment 4/30/07-6/18/07
Position filled 6/18/07
All of our budgeted positions are important for efficient operations and quality
service. We strive to fill them as quickly as possible when vacancies occur.
Recruitment time for vacancies varies based on re-evaluation of positions, type
of recruitment, number of vacancies, available candidates for positions, and other
factors. If the additional burden of requesting funds from County Council is
added to the recruitment process the result will be to slow the process further
and increase total number of vacancies at any point in time. Additionally, staff
time will be diverted from operations to attend Council meetings asking for
funding for positions.
In conclusion, we request that the referenced position not be de-funded and that
the general practice of setting aside funds for vacant positions and requiring
additional Council action for funding at time of recruitment not be instituted.
Thank you for this opportunity for comment.
