Murashige, Laura
From: Paul and Naomi routon [hawaiirouton@hotmail.com] ~
Sent: Monday, June 04, 2007 9:34 AM
To: counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us
Subject: Support the resolution 169-07
I strongly support the resolution!

The following are facts about Punaluu:
1. Punaluu is the only significant ocean access in Kau that all age groups can use because of its location,
roadway, and protected swimming and activity area.
2. The area is finite. Its' size makes it precious. As the population grows, it will become more precious.
3. The site has significant developmental potential as a multi-use recreation area including hiking, swimming,
fishing, and beach going. Food, souvenirs, tour guide and other activity businesses could thrive.
4. Hundreds of thousand of tourists pass by this site every year.
5. Residential development in a coastal area such as Punaluu will be permanent. Properties will be deeded and
not reversible. Those who live here far into the future will have to live with the consequences of this usage loss.
6. Plenty of planned residential site already exist in Kau. Discovery Harbour alone has over 500 vacant lots with
county water, electricity, and paved roads.
7. Tourism is the only practical central industry to build towards in Kau.
8. It's because people from far away come to make fortunes changing placed like Punaluu that a committee such
as yours must exist.
Please make the decision for the future.
Sincerely,
Paul Routon
P.O.
