Murashige, Laura
From: Trish Drennan [trishadrennan@hotmail.com]
Sent: Sunday, June 03, 2007 10:44 PM ~j~ ~ f3~ ~
To: counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us
Cc: trisha@scshawaii.com
Subject: The Keolalani Hanoa Resolution
Deaz Hawaii County Council Members,
Thus far, we have been told of the many educational and enriching opportunities provided by this "Living
Classroom". We have been reminded of the inherent beauty and cultural richness of the longstanding families that serve as
Punulu'u's custodians. We aze awaze of the stories implicit in the material cultural of the ancestors and are reminded to hold

precious the sanctity of the heiau that stand as guazdians azound Punalu'u.
Arguments have been presented regazding sustainable development which incorporates tourism. Developmental

tourism has unfortunately hosted a deluge of problems with one important consequence - no fuming back. Allowing
development would so severely impact the aquifer system of ponds and springs that feed Punalu'u that it would forever be
changed. Protection of this sacred land is therefore vital for the lifeblood of this fully functioning and thriving ahupua'a of
Hawaii which allows for the cultural and traditional practices of the peoples who have long been its benefactors.
It goes without saying, Punalu'u is the thriving, beating heazt of the Ka'u Ahupua'a. We would not want to destroy
this by splitting the vital organs and desecrating the mana that flows from this region.
I fully support the "Keolalani Hanoa" resolution (No. 169-07), proposed by the Honorable Councilman, Bob
Jacobson Malama Punalu'u, and its endorcement by the Council.
Sincerely,
Trisha M.
