As a committed resident of Ka'u, I must object to resolution 169-07. I will
not support the purchase of 150 acres or 300 + acres that has recently been
identified and amended on this resolution. It is imperative that this resolution
be stopped.
Councilman Jacobson never asked for full community input to even propose
such a resolution, nor has he provided a plan to suggest how this purchase
will benefit the people of Ka'u!
I believe many of us who live in Ka'u want preservation but not at the
expense of our people. Preservation and preservation alone has not provided
for our people. If we take care of our people, the people will take care of our
land.
Anyone who has been raised in Ka'u cannot fully agree with the slogan that
has been used in regards to Funalu'u that "Punalu'u" is the heart of Ka'u. To
agree with such a statement is to devalue any other part of Ka'u. I was raised
in Waiohinu, it is dear to my heart. My great-great grandparents lived in
Hilea, as it was dear to their heart. My great grandmother Tutu Holokahiki is
buried at Punalu'u, I am sure it was dear to her heart.
Ka'u, members of the council, all of it maybe considered the heart. Those of
us who have chosen to live here and remain may agree. If Ka'u be the heart,
then the people of Ka'u is it's heartbeat. When the heartbeat is no longer
everyone knows that the heart dies. Malama the people and together we will
Malama the aina.
You must know Councilman Jacobson, all you have dorie with this resolution
is further divide our people.
Raylene Fujikawa Moses

Resident of Ka'u
Comm.
