The BID will allow business, government and residents
[o collaborate to implement immediate solutions to address cleanliness and safety to this historic
area.
The Kailua Village Business Improvement District will re-establish [he quality of life for all to
enjoy spending time in the village. Over the years Kailua Village has declined in appearance and
ambience. Our employees, residents and visitors are subjected to criminal activity such as drug
dealing, panhandling and graffiti mar of our beautiful village. In addition, we have received
negative media exposure which was not favorable for visitors coming to Kona or the Big Island
and these types of incidents may jeopardize the economic conditions of our community.
For aver twenty years Business Improvement Districts small and large have achie"ved success
across the nation and now our historical Kailua Village has an opportunity to do the same by
bringing back a sense of community and place. Business Improvement Districts work to improve
the area's safety and appearance, to enhance its image and competitiveness, to boost hole] and
retail occupancy. All assessments generated by the proposed district will go directly back into the
district for services and programs to help restore Kailua Village as a place we can all be proud of.
We humbly ask for your kokua and support to witness the Kailua Village Business Improvement
District become reality.
m rely,
Lalo Fernandez
General Manager •
cc: Gary Hogan, President -Hawaiian Hotels & Resotts Cuero'
Ref.
