v 4
r~
Petition to Stop Street Vendin~~a,~-;~
Waipio Valley Lookout Area
August 13, 1997
We the people of the Waipio Valley Lookout area, respectfully request the County
Council, County of Hawaii, to take immediate steps to stop "street vending" at Historic
Waipio Valley Lookout and adjacent county road.
We also request that Waipio Valley Lookout area and the adjacent county road be added
to the restricted list (Section 22-31 of Article 1, Division 7, Chapter 22 of the Hawaii
County Code ,Ordinance no. 9620) in order to guarantee future protection from
unnecessary congestion which compromises safety.
This is 1C a Historic area attracting people from all over the world and should be operated
in an orderly fashion. Carnival like street vending causes people to stop in the middle of
the road, double pazk, and pazk on private property. This disrupts the flow of traffic and
increases the potential for auto accidents.
We the undersigned property owners and residents of the aforementioned area request
your help to preserve the cultural beauty, traffic safety, and rural chazacter of one of
Hawaii's most historic treasures.
