Murashige, Laura
From: Blake Hendrickson [blakehendrickson42@hotmail.com]
Sent: Thursday, June 21, 2007 6:09 AM
To: counciltestimony@co. hawaii. hi. us
Subject: Resolution 169-07 ~e~ 7
UT JUr( ~y )
TO: Hawaii County Council Members f1rJ ~ C~
f i
FROM: Blake Hendrickson -
RE: Resolution 169-07
I write in strong support of Resolution 169-07, The Keolalani Hanoa Resolution. My name is
Blake Hendrickson, from Minnesota and a future graduate student in the Speech Department
at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I plan on visiting friends in Ka'u and Punalu'u
with my children and grandchildren and would be devastated to see hotels and condos ontop
of tradition and culture.
I visited the islands two years ago with my professor Mike Sunnafrank and got a chance to
meet many of the local people who continue to live and pass on the traditions of their
ancestors. It was an experience that changed my life and gave me a spiritual sensation
that I could never have imagined.
This is why I have decided to return to complete my masters in Hawaii. I spend lots of my
time traveling and in my travels I tell everyone how beautiful Hawaiin life style and
culture is and the lands that they inhabit.
On the contrary 2 have nothing good to say about the ugly development that has occured all

over the islands. It is a shame that legislators continue to allow more development in the

name of money. Please, I beg you, don't let this happen on Ka'u and Punalu'u!
2 know this is a very hard decision for you. It has become quite the norm to allow
development in places where nature should be allowed to thrive. 2 witnessed the same sad
story around the lakes in Minnessta, the beautiful French riviera is nothing but hotels
and restaurants and before long there will be a boardwalk spanning all of Spain's costa
del sol. This has to stop sometime so why not start with Ka'u and Punalu'u.
Thank you very much for you time.
Sincerely,
Blake Hendrickson
Picture this - share your photos and you could win big!

http://www.GETREALPhotoContest.com?ocid=TXT TAGHM&loc=us
Cornnb. h+o. 1
:ref.
