Murashige, Laura
From: Nancy Vang [nancy.vang@gmail.com]
Sent: Sunday, June 24, 2007 7:23 PM
70: counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us
Subject: In Support of Hawaii County Resolution 169-07
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express a concern in the developing areas around the Black Sands. I was a student of
about 26 that visited Hawaii with a professor from Duluth, MN back in 2006. I am upset to hear that
anyone wants to develop in the area of the Black Sands.
When I was visiting and learning about the culture and people who live in that azea, I felt like home.
The people there are very gracious and hospitable. Not only were they friendly, but very knowledgable
about their environment. I could feel their sense of belonging and at the same time their sense of losing
when it comes to developing azound sacred areas.
I feel that the land around the Black Sands should be left for those in the future to learn and see how
Hawaii was or still is. I was a student that loved the culture and environment that the Hawaiians
portrayed to me when I was there. Above all, I want to come back and still be able to visit all the areas
that I visited and be able to bring others to learn about Hawaii. It was a wonderful experience to see
what I could when I was there and it would be a shame to not have that for future generations or future
classes from Duluth.
In closing, I support Hawaii County Resolution 169-07. Do not take this away from us and the local
Hawaiians. If you do, what will be there to show future mainlanders when we come twice a year to visit
and learn? Hopefully plenty. Thank you for your time and consideration in my opinion.
Sincerely,

Nancy Vang
.
- c__
c.:,
rv
<j.
~7
Comm. No. 3
Ref.
