Developers are proposing to build
over 1,200 luxury homes, 2 luxury hotels and a shopping center
at Punalu'u. This development will cause irreversible damage to
the fragile natural systems of ponds and springs that have made
Punalu'u famous.
Hawaii County Council Resolution 169-07 calls for protection of
the coastal areas and adjacent lands at Punalu'u utilizing the
county's "Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources
Preservation Fund" and a grant from the federal government. It
follows the Mayor's recommendation that Punalu'u Beach Park and
adjacent lands become the number two priority for purchase. `LQ
Over 4,000 Hawaii Residents, including 1,000 residents of Ka'u Ref.
