PUNALU'U ALERT: HEARING SET FOR MONDAY, 9AM IN HILO Page 1 of 1
Murashige, Laura
From: Amy Cody [amycody@hawaii.rr.com]
Sent: Monday, July 09, 2007 6:54 AM w(;C a f?(~
To: counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us
Cc: danny@kaupreservation.org ;
Subject: Resolution 169-07 PUNALU'U
Like the majority of island residents, I work two jobs and am not able to attend the myriad
of meetings being held in an attempt to wear the public out regarding the issue of allowing
developers to rape Punalu'u.
I am not a resident of Kau. I live Hamakua. But since the councilman from my district has
directly involved himself in the situation at Punalu'u, by mailing out a survey, I believe my
voice also should be heard. Its not like Punalu'u is separate from the rest of the island....l
don't have to be a resident of Kau district to enjoy Punalu'u, just like I don't have to live in
Hilo to enjoy lunch at Miyo's. We are all connected on this island so I have to say enough
already-
Enough of developers coming in and taking the best Hawaii has to offer and packaging it
for sale, fencing it off and locking it up.
Enough of the servant mentality being pushed onto our kids---"Go to school and get good
grades Kimo, don't speak Pidgin, speak good
English so you can get a good job as a luggage handler or a caddy at the resort!"
We don't need another resort. We need real jobs
Enough of council members ignoring the will and wishes of the people they were elected
to represent
Enough meetings, enough debate, enough BS.
There have been plenty meetings, and a lot of public input against this development and
for the preservation of Punalu'u. The developers have shown themselves to be short-
sighted and irresponsible, not to mention somewhat less than honest. The people of the
area have proven the cultural, social and environmental importance of the area as well as
their dedication to insure its protection. The council has plenty of information. Do not
embarrass yourself, your constituents, or your ancestors by doing anything less than the
right thing.
Vote no on allowing development on this special and sacred land. Support resolution 169-
07 and vote to preserve Punalu'u.
Mahalo,
Amy Cody-Quinn
Resident and registered voter
Island of Hawaii Comm. No. +~1-7 8~
Ref.
