Murashige, Laura
From: Bill Brent (bbrent@hawaii.rr.com]
Sent: Saturday, July 07, 2007 9:05 PM
To: counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us
Subject: COUNTY COUNCIL HEARING JULY 9TH: SUBMISSION OF CITIZEN TESTIMONY IN
SUPPORT OF RESOLUTION 169-07

Aloha, Honorable State and County Representatives of Ka'u, Hawaii:
I am writing in support of Resolution 169-07 as a first step toward stopping the INCREASED
exploitation of the Punaluu Black Sand Beach.
In my opinion, Punaluu ALREADY gets too much traffic for the good of the wildlife.

Why do we humans always have to grant ourselves priority over what is best for the land?

Yet if some of us do not speak for the land, then who will?

MY vision would be to leave the land alone for five years or so, until the wildlife can
re-establish its natural claim on the beach environment. As a more realistic proposal,
given the immense popularity of Punaluu as a tourist and locals destination, how about
closing down the beach for most of the week? I would support a resolution that would open
the beach to public access only on weekends and selected holidays.
Realizing that I am a tiny voice crying in the wilderness (as it prepares to burn with ,the

blaze of near-total incineration at the hands of developers), I respectfully ask that you

vote for approval of Resolution 169-07.
Most sincerely,
--Sill Brent, Pahoa
[I am re-sending this testimony for the July 9 hearing in Hilo due to earlier problems

with HTML code inserted into my letter]
,
G.
i )
~
I'
~In~. rro. 3t~.-~R~
Ref.
