WHEREAS, in the interest of protecting one of Puna's limited access points to the <br /> <br /> shoreline, portions of the properties at Wai`ele to be acquired are covered by Tax Map Keys <br /> <br /> (TMK) 1-4-03-003 and 1-4-03-037; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br /> <br /> director of finance is authorized to enter into negotiations for the acquisition of Wai`ele in the <br /> <br /> District of Puna, pursuant to the terms of this resolution; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the director of finance is hereby authorized to <br /> initiate any funding mechanisms required for the acquisition of Wai`ele, in accordance with <br /> chapter 2, article 42, Hawaii County Code, relating to the Public Access, Open Space, and <br /> <br /> Natural Resources Preservation Fund and Commission; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii County Council welcomes individuals <br /> who aze willing to shaze their expertise and engage with others in an open process to form a new <br /> non-profit solely dedicated to the management of Wai`ele; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Contingency Relief funds from District 5 would be <br /> provided for facilitation services through the Depaztment of Reseazch and Development or by <br /> contract if the community desires help in building acommunity-based non-profit organization; <br /> and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii County Department of Parks and <br /> Recreation and Hawaii County Land Management Division is requested to select acommunity- <br /> based non-profit organization that contains diverse community membership, namely with <br /> expertise in economics, education, Hawaiian cultural practices, shoreline management, <br /> fundraising and community building, and any other necessary skills to manage this public <br /> resource; and <br /> 2 <br /> <br />
