My concern lies in the fact that this resolution has been drug out too long and
there has been a drastic and very sudden change of heart from 5 of the councilors that
previously voted for the resolution. More importantly my frustration lies in the fact the
the Mayor of these wonderful people and precious lands is turning against them and not
heeding to the wishes of the people that put him in office, all for the sake of money. No
money in the world could replace the experience that I and so many students from UMD -
before and after me. No money in the world can replace the intense culture that this -
places possesses and provides for so many people. No money can replace the immense loss
that these people would face if this land is handed over to someone who has no
understanding of the true value of this place. That value is not monetary. Turning away
from these people and the lands and taking away this precious, fragile ecosystem, economy
and LIFE is like taking a dagger and stabbing it through the heart of Hawaii killing her
and sending the native Hawaiian culture to extinction. Why would you assign such a fate to
the place you call home?
Compromise seems to be what the mayor is looking to accomplish here, and in any other
situation I would say that compromise could be a viable option, but as it is this
developer doesn't seem open to compromise and neither should you as the people and elected
officials of this sacred place and the people of Ka'u and the surrounding area certainly
are not. Compromise is not an option for a Win/Lose situation such as this one. As far as
I am concerned there should be no question as to the decision for Resolution 169-07; heed
to the wishes of the people and save Punalu'u and the people of Ka'u. Because lets face
it, if this resolution goes in favor of the developer, the people of Ka'u will follow in
the path of extinction as the land did.
We need to keep the wonderful places of the world wonderful, peaceful, natural and
educational; Punalu'u is one of those places. Please pass the Resolution 169-07 in favor
of saving her so I am not one of the last to have the life changing experience that my:

Ohana in Ka'u and our sacred Punalu'u have given me and so many others. Thank you for
taking the time to acknowledge my concern and I hope that it may have swayed you back to
the side of dignity and reason.

Andrea Kristine Mock

University of Minnesota Duluth Alumni -

This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program.
Comm.
