MSY os M <br /> i <br /> ' ~ui1 <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> TE Oi ~M~+ <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 297 07 <br /> RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR TO ENTER INTO AN <br /> <br /> AGREEMENT WITH THE STATE OF HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF THE ATTORNEY <br /> GENERAL, PURSUANT TO HRS 46-7, FOR A HAWAII ANTI-TRAFFICKING TASK <br /> FORCE GRANT FOR THE HAWAII COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General, Crime Prevention and <br /> Justice Assistance Division has authorized funding towards the Hawaii County Police Department's <br /> Hawaii Anti-Trafficking Task Force Grant Project; and <br /> WHEREAS, the other goals of the task force are: 1) to assist trafficking victims with <br /> applications for T visas and continued presence in the United States; 2) to facilitate the development <br /> of interagency protocols for a coordinated victim service response to human trafficking; 3) to conduct <br /> a strategy that supports a strong law enforcement role in public awareness and outreach; and to 4) to <br /> identify and collaborate with community stakeholders in an effort to eliminate trafficking in human <br /> subjects; and <br /> WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to cover the cost related to implementing the project's <br /> goal of increasing the identification of trafficking victims through proactive law enforcement training <br /> and response; and <br /> WHEREAS, the funds provided by the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General are <br /> derived from grants provided by the federal government; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 46-7, requires that county departments obtain <br /> the consent of the council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting <br /> action to be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend, and receive any <br /> funds or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those <br /> powers. <br /> <br />
