Suite 401 <br /> HGNOIULU, HAWAII 96813 <br /> 1808) 5861150 <br /> June 16, 2006 <br /> The Honorable Lawrence Mahuna <br /> Chief of Police <br /> Hawaii County Police Department <br /> 349 Kapiolani Street <br /> Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br /> Dear Chia, <br /> Attention: Assistant Chief James Day <br /> The Hawaii County Police Department was selected to receive a grant award from Hawaii's <br /> FY 2005 Hawaii Anti-Trafficking Task Force for the following project: <br /> Project Title: Hawaii Anti-Traffickine Task Force <br /> Amount: $15,000 Federal <br /> Specialist: Julie Okamoto (telephone (808) 587-7442) <br /> The grant funds that are being awarded to the Hawaii County Police Department aze to cover <br /> cost related to implementing the Hawaii Anti-Trafficking Task Force's goal to increase the <br /> identification of trafficking victims through proactive law enforcement training and response. <br /> The funds that are being used to cover Assistant Chief James Day's travel to attend the monthly task <br /> force and committee meetings held on Oahu will continue to be paid directly by the Department of <br /> the Attomey General. Subsequently, this grant is not for travel cost to attend regular task force and <br /> committee meetings. <br /> A 25% match is required for the federal funds, however, the match is being provided by the <br /> task force members which includes the Hawaii County Police Department. The Department of the <br /> Attomey General is overseeing the match reporting and expenditwes. <br /> The other task force goals include: <br /> • To assist trafficking victims with applications for T visas and continued presence in the <br /> United States. <br /> To facilitate the development of interagency protocols for a coordinated victim service <br /> response to human trafficking. <br /> EXHIBIT "1" <br /> <br />
