August 8, 2007

Honorable Harry Kim
Mayor, Count of Hawaii
25 Aupuni St.
Hilo, HI 96720
Dear Mayor Kim,
As president of the Ka' u Chamber of Commerce, I am writing on behalf of
our Board of Directors. We strongly support your position with regards to the
Punalu'u issue. It is time for leaders to step forward seeking compromise and
consensus on this contentious issue. There has been little but rancorous debate
in recent months, generating much more heat than light. You have been able
to allow acooling-off period, so that compromise may be achieved.
We applaud your leadership and are very hopeful that a resolution will be
achieved in the best interest of the citizens of Ka'u. Our own board members
are as divided as the rest of the community on this issue, but they all are in
agreement that the path you have chosen is the right one. This decision is not
an emergency, and a bad decision made in haste is something that the residents
of Ka' u will be saddled with in perpetuity. The Board of Directors voted
unanimously at our meeting 8/7/07 to support your initiative and actively seek
compromise and consensus on the Punalu'u issue.
Sincer ly,
Ken Wicks, president Ka'u CC
PO Box 6710
Ocean View, H196737
cc: County Council members, Editors---WHT and Tribune-Herald
Comm.
