/ ROBERT D. Curtis Tyler III, Council member
County of Hawaii
77-6399 Nalani St., #104
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii 96740
Deaz Council member Tyler:
My wife and I were quite concerned about the fact that we were receiving wastewater chazges
here on our side of the island that seem unusually high based on the conditions that prevail with
our weather conditions. This grid climate demands that all of us rely on excessive irrigation to
preserve the natural landscaping complementing our home sites. The water used with this
application does not enter the wastewater system and consequently should not be chazged against
our account.
Our wastewater bill in each of two month periods exceeded our water bill and this certainly does
not seem logical. Also, we received a notice (copy enclosed) that our last two months usage
seemed to indicate that we were using an excessive amount of water which I might add amounted
to 311,000 gallons over a two month period. We were completely unawaze of this problem and
it was ultimately found out to be a defective sprinkler valve. It was quickly repaired and I
assume we will return to our normal usage of approximately 45-50 thousand gallons per 60 day
period.
In conclusion, I believe we residents here on the dry side of the island should not be chazged such
a high rate for wastewater when obviously none of the above examples enter the sewage system.
Your assistance in promoting a change in the way these chazges are assessed would certainly be
appreciated by our as well as I am sure all residents in this particular area.
Sincerely,
R bert D. Kelce
