a.,,,~ l ~ .4 COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII A~w x~+ RESOLUTION NO. 313 0'7 A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AS A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE BOTH CLAIMED AND ADDRESSED BY THE COMMUNITY. WHEREAS, in 2006 alone, the County of Hawaii had 937 abuse cases, 288 sexual assaults, and 521 violations of orders; and WHEREAS, during that same year, there were 59 assault cases, 56 terroristic threatening cases, 11 kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment cases, two attempted murders, one murder, 13 reckless driving and endangerment cases, and 59 strangulation cases all involving domestic partners or family members; and WHEREAS, domestic violence is a problem that must be claimed by the community and as a whole; and WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by schools; and WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by churches; and WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by social service agencies; and WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by various county, state and federal agencies that employ a range of public servants from police officers and firefighters to doctors and nurses; and WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by unions; and WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by private employers; and WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by the print, radio and TV media; and WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers; now, therefore BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that, once domestic violence is claimed by the community as a problem, social service agencies, governmental agencies, and private individuals can work together for a strategic response to the problem; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that once there is a strategic response to domestic violence, there will be more public awazeness, more reporting that leads to eazly intervention and
