a.,,,~ <br /> l <br /> ~ .4 <br /> <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> A~w x~+ <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 313 0'7 <br /> A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AS A PROBLEM THAT <br /> NEEDS TO BE BOTH CLAIMED AND ADDRESSED BY THE COMMUNITY. <br /> WHEREAS, in 2006 alone, the County of Hawaii had 937 abuse cases, 288 sexual <br /> assaults, and 521 violations of orders; and <br /> WHEREAS, during that same year, there were 59 assault cases, 56 terroristic threatening <br /> cases, 11 kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment cases, two attempted murders, one murder, 13 <br /> reckless driving and endangerment cases, and 59 strangulation cases all involving domestic <br /> partners or family members; and <br /> WHEREAS, domestic violence is a problem that must be claimed by the community and <br /> as a whole; and <br /> WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by schools; and <br /> WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by churches; and <br /> WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by social service agencies; and <br /> WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by various county, state and federal <br /> agencies that employ a range of public servants from police officers and firefighters to doctors <br /> and nurses; and <br /> WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by unions; and <br /> WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by private employers; and <br /> WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by the print, radio and TV media; and <br /> WHEREAS, domestic violence must be claimed by mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, <br /> aunts, uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers; now, therefore <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that, <br /> once domestic violence is claimed by the community as a problem, social service agencies, <br /> governmental agencies, and private individuals can work together for a strategic response to the <br /> problem; and <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that once there is a strategic response to domestic <br /> violence, there will be more public awazeness, more reporting that leads to eazly intervention and <br /> <br />
